Planetary gearbox for servo duty
The GBX0800161004F is a straight-tooth planetary gearbox from Schneider Electric's GBX series, sized for servo-motor output in precision indexing or positioning axes. The 80 mm housing diameter and 16:1 reduction ratio match it to a 750 W to 1.5 kW motor class, depending on the duty cycle. Continuous output torque is 120 N·m at 100 rpm and 30 °C, with a maximum intermittent torque of 192 N·m under the same conditions — the margin covers acceleration peaks without oversizing the gearbox.
Backlash and torsional rigidity
Maximum torsional backlash is 14 arcmin — standard precision for a straight-tooth planetary. For a positioning application with a 10:1 belt or ballscrew after the gearbox, that translates to roughly 0.2 mm of lost motion at the load; if the axis needs tighter repeatability, a low-backlash or helical planetary is the next step up. Torsional rigidity is 6.5 N·m/arcmin, meaning the gearbox wind-up under full continuous torque is about 18 arcmin — the system stiffness budget must account for this when tuning the servo loop.
Lifecycle and sourcing
Available through independent surplus and broker channels. The gearbox is lubricated for life and sealed to IP54 at the shaft output, so it can be dropped into a legacy machine without re-engineering the mounting or lubrication circuit.
Operating envelope and noise
Rated service life is 30,000 hours at 100 rpm and 30 °C — typical for a continuous-duty indexing table or conveyor drive. Noise level is 60 dB at 1 m, no-load — quiet enough for a machine tending cell or packaging line where operator exposure limits apply. The black anodized aluminium housing and C45 steel shaft resist corrosion in washdown-adjacent areas, though the IP54 shaft seal is not rated for direct spray.
