Torque and backlash — what the numbers mean for a motion axis
The GBX0801000702F is a planetary gearbox with straight teeth, 80 mm frame diameter, and a 100:1 reduction ratio. Continuous output torque is 120 N.m at 100 rpm and 30 °C; maximum intermittent torque reaches 192 N.m under the same conditions — the continuous figure is the one to size against for a duty cycle that runs longer than a few minutes. Torsional backlash is rated at 16 arcmin maximum. For a positioning axis that indexes to a stop, that backlash sits at the output — the reflected backlash at the motor is divided by the 100:1 ratio, so the motor-side play is about 0.16 arcmin. The gearbox also carries a torsional rigidity of 6.3 N.m/arcmin, which governs wind-up under load before the backlash gap closes.
Service life and derating — the 30,000-hour envelope
Rated service life is 30,000 hours at 100 rpm and 30 °C ambient. The gearbox is lubricated for life — no oil changes or regreasing intervals. Maximum axial (Fa) and radial (Fr) forces are derated between the 10,000-hour and 30,000-hour targets: at 30,000 hours, Fa is 900 N and Fr is 650 N (force applied at mid-span on the output shaft). At 10,000 hours those limits rise to 1200 N and 950 N respectively. Shaft output protection is IP54 — sealed against dust ingress and splash, but not submersion. The housing is black anodized aluminium; the shaft is C45 steel. Ambient operating range is -25 to 90 °C.
Obsolete — sourcing through independent channels
Schneider Electric lists this gearbox as obsolete. The part is sourced through independent surplus and broker channels; quantities are lot-specific and confirmed at RFQ.
