Torque ratings and duty cycle
Continuous output torque is 155 N.m (1371.9 lbf.in) at 100 rpm and 30 °C — this is the sustained load the gearbox can carry over its 30000-hour service life without exceeding the thermal limit. Maximum output torque reaches 248 N.m (2195.0 lbf.in) at the same speed and temperature — the peak capability for acceleration, deceleration, or intermittent overload events. Do not size the application above the continuous rating for steady-state duty. Efficiency is 94 % — about 6 % of input power is lost as heat inside the housing. For a motor delivering 1 kW at the input, roughly 60 W must be dissipated through the anodised aluminium body. In a confined enclosure, that heat adds to the ambient temperature budget.
Mechanical interface and load limits
Planetary gearbox with straight teeth, 120 mm external diameter, and a 4:1 reduction ratio. The output shaft is C45 carbon steel. Maximum torsional backlash is 8 arc.min — acceptable for general positioning but not for high-precision indexing without a servo loop closing around the load. Torsional rigidity is 12 N.m/arcmin — the shaft twists about 0.08 arcmin per N.m of applied torque. For a servo application, this stiffness contributes to the overall system bandwidth; the gearbox compliance adds to the motor-side encoder's effective position error. Maximum radial force Fr is 1500 N at 100 rpm, applied at mid-distance from the output shaft, for the 30000-hour life. Maximum axial force Fa is 2100 N under the same conditions. Exceeding these loads shortens bearing life below the rated 30000 hours. Shaft output is IP54 — the seal at the output shaft resists dust ingress and splashing water, but the gearbox is not rated for washdown or submersion. The housing itself is black anodised aluminium; the colour is cosmetic.
Operating conditions and maintenance
Ambient temperature range for operation is -25 to 90 °C. The gearbox is lubricated for life — no oil changes or regreasing intervals. The 30000-hour service life is based on 100 rpm and 30 °C; higher speeds or temperatures reduce the bearing and gear life accordingly. Noise level is 65 dB at 1 m, no-load — straight-tooth planetary gears are inherently noisier than helical. In a quiet control cabinet or operator area, this may be audible; plan for acoustic isolation if the application is noise-sensitive.
