The Schneider Electric GBX1200150843D is a straight-tooth planetary gearbox in the GBX series, Ø 120 mm housing, stepping the input down 15:1 to a continuous output torque of 230 N.m and a peak of 368 N.m. 368 N.m peak gives headroom above the 230 N.m continuous rating for start-stop cycles on conveyors, mixers and indexing tables where the gearbox absorbs the inertial spike before steady-state running.
Shaft loads, backlash and service life
Maximum radial load is 1500 N at 100 rpm over the 30 000 h life at 30 °C (2000 N if the life target is shortened to 10 000 h), with maximum axial load 2100 N over the same duty — the loading curves must be checked against the driven shaft, not just the gearbox torque, because the radial limit tends to bind first on belt- and chain-driven loads. Backlash is specified at 12 arc.min maximum with torsional rigidity of 13 N.m/arcmin, which puts this gearbox in the general-purpose precision class rather than the high-stiffness segment demanded by servo contouring applications. The moment of inertia at the input is 2.53 g.cm², low enough that it adds only marginally to the reflected inertia of a typical servo or stepper drive and will not dominate acceleration sizing.
Efficiency, noise and operating envelope
Efficiency of 94 % at the 15:1 stage means the gearbox dissipates roughly 6 % of input power as heat — for a continuous 230 N.m output at low rpm the additional cooling requirement is modest and rarely forces an external fan. The unit is lubricated for life, so no oil-change intervals need to enter the maintenance schedule; noise level is rated 65 dB at 1 m no-load, which is acceptable for cabinet-installed drives but worth checking against operator-station noise surveys on attended lines. Ambient operating range is -25 to 90 °C, the housing is black anodized aluminium with a C 45 steel shaft, and the shaft seal carries IP54 — dust-protected and splash-resistant rather than washdown-rated, so cabinet or sheltered mounting is the natural fit.
