Continuous torque and service life — the real duty ratings
The GBX1600081384D is a straight-tooth planetary gearbox with an 8:1 reduction ratio. The service life is rated 30,000 hours at 100 rpm and 30 °C ambient, which is the standard life target for a servo-driven axis in packaging, material handling, or machine tool indexing. At 96% efficiency, the thermal loss is low enough that the lubricated-for-life charge (no maintenance interval) stays within the -25 to 90 °C operating range without external cooling. The black anodized aluminium housing sheds heat well in a cabinet or on a machine frame.
Load capacity and precision limits
Maximum axial force Fa is 6000 N at 100 rpm for the 30,000-hour life target, and 8000 N if the application accepts a shorter 10,000-hour life. Maximum radial force Fr is 4200 N at mid-span on the output shaft for the 30,000-hour target, and 6000 N for the 10,000-hour case. These limits assume the load is applied at the midpoint of the shaft extension — an overhung load farther out reduces the allowable force proportionally. Torsional rigidity is 38 N.m/arcmin, and maximum backlash is 6 arc.min. For a servo positioning loop, the 6 arc.min backlash means the gearbox contributes about 0.1° of lost motion at the output — acceptable for most indexing and point-to-point moves, but a low-backlash variant should be specified if the application requires bidirectional accuracy under 0.05°. Moment of inertia reflected to the input is 4.63 g.cm² — this is the value to enter into the servo drive's inertia ratio calculation. The 160 mm external diameter and any-position mounting simplify integration into a compact machine envelope. The IP54 rating at the shaft output means the seal keeps out dust and splashing water, but the gearbox is not rated for washdown — keep it out of direct spray zones.
