Torque ratings and duty cycle
The Schneider GBX1600161083D planetary gearbox delivers 800 N.m continuous output torque and peaks at 1280 N.m maximum — the continuous figure is the one to size against for sustained conveyor or rotary-table duty, while the maximum covers short-duration overloads like indexing moves or breakaway torque. With a 16:1 reduction ratio, it steps a 1500 rpm input motor down to roughly 94 rpm output at the shaft, multiplying the motor torque by the ratio times the 94 % efficiency figure. The straight-tooth gear geometry keeps backlash to 10 arc.min maximum — that is the positioning repeatability floor for pick-and-place or indexing applications where reversal errors matter.
Service life and environmental limits
Rated service life is 30,000 hours at 100 rpm output speed and 30 °C ambient — the thermal budget at that speed and load sets the L10 bearing life; run it hotter or faster and the service hours derate proportionally. The operating ambient range spans -25 to 90 °C, so it handles both cold-start freezer lines and hot motor-coupled enclosures without a separate heater or cooler. Shaft output sealing is IP54 — splash-protected but not submersible; in washdown zones the gearbox body needs external shielding or a drip shield over the output seal.
Shaft loading and integration
Maximum axial force on the output shaft is 6000 N at 100 rpm for the 30,000-hour life target, or 8000 N if you accept a 10,000-hour service window — the bearing selection governs this trade-off. Radial force limit is 4200 N at 100 rpm for the long-life case, applied at mid-span on the output shaft — a belt-drive or pinion overhung load must stay under this to avoid premature bearing wear. The black anodised aluminium housing (160 mm outer diameter) mounts in any position, and the C45 steel output shaft handles keyed or shrink-disc couplings without surface-hardening concerns. Lubricated for life — no oil-change interval to schedule, which simplifies the maintenance log for a critical spare.
No direct pin-compatible alternative within the GBX series — the 160 mm frame size and 16:1 ratio are specific to this order code; a ratio change or frame upsizing would require re-verifying the coupling and mounting interface.
