Torque envelope – continuous vs peak
The GBX1600201383D: Continuous output torque is 800 N.m; maximum output torque reaches 1280 N.m. That 1.6× peak margin means the gearbox handles transient overloads during acceleration or jams without immediate damage, but the duty cycle must stay within the continuous rating for thermal stability. The 20:1 reduction ratio is fixed – no field-swappable stages. Straight teeth (not helical) keep axial thrust low, which simplifies bearing selection but trades off some noise smoothness versus a helical cut.
Shaft loading and service life
Rated service life is 30,000 hours at 100 rpm and 30 °C. At that speed and temperature, maximum axial force (Fa) is 6000 N and maximum radial force (Fr) is 4200 N applied at mid-span of the output shaft. Push to 10,000-hour life and the limits climb to 8000 N axial and 6000 N radial – useful for short-duration high-load cycles. Torsional rigidity is 41 N.m/arcmin, which means the shaft wind-up under load is predictable – critical for positioning accuracy in indexing or pick-and-place applications where backlash alone (10 arcmin max) isn't the full story.
Mounting and environmental fit
Mounting position is any orientation – the gearbox is lubricated for life, so no breather or oil-level check is needed. Shaft output seal is IP54 – protected against dust ingress and splashing water. The housing is black anodized aluminium (160 mm diameter) with C45 steel shaft. Noise level at no-load is 70 dB at 1 m, typical for a straight-tooth planetary of this size.
