It's a combination motor-protective device — it handles both overload protection (via its magnetic-electronic trip unit) and short-circuit interruption up to its rated breaking capacity. The 2 A rating makes this the smallest current step in the GV4L family, sized for fractional-horsepower motors: it covers 0.25 kW at 400 V and up to 1.5 kW at 690 V. The dual-standard compliance — EN/IEC 60947-4-1 for motor starters and EN/IEC 60947-2 for circuit breakers — means this single device satisfies both the motor protection coordination requirements and the branch-circuit short-circuit protection needs. That simplifies panel design: one component, one set of coordination studies.
For motor protection, pair this with a motor full-load current at or just below 2 A — the magnetic trip range of 12...28 A handles starting inrush without nuisance trips on motors drawing up to roughly 6-7x FLA during start. At 415 V it's still 50 kA. That's high enough to install downstream of a transformer or in a plant with stiff utility service without worrying about cascading failure. The 15 kA at 525 V and 8 kA at 690 V cover the less common voltage ranges. AC-3 utilization category means the breaker is rated for switching motors — making and breaking stalled-rotor currents. The 40,000 electrical cycles at 440 V at rated current is the endurance figure for that duty. Mechanical durability matches at 40,000 cycles. Power dissipation of 6.1 W per pole means 18.3 W total heat to manage inside the enclosure. In a densely packed panel with multiple breakers, that adds up — plan for ventilation or derating if ambient exceeds 40 °C.
The GV4L mounts on a DIN rail — standard 35 mm symmetrical rail. Dimensions are 155 mm high, 81 mm wide, 116 mm deep. The grey housing (RAL 7016) is the standard TeSys Deca color. Connection pitch is 27 mm without spreaders, 35 mm with them — plan your terminal block layout accordingly. Terminals accept lugs or ring terminals. Torque to 9 N·m for cables 16...95 mm² on the line/load side, 5 N·m for the smaller 1.5...10 mm² control wiring. Operating position is any position — no derating needed for horizontal or inverted mounting. Altitude rating to 5000 m covers most installations without derating.
