Motor circuit breaker for 50 A three-phase loads
The GV4P50B6 is a 3-pole motor circuit breaker from the TeSys GV4 series, rated 50 A continuous line current and designed for motor protection under IEC 60947-4-1 and UL 60947-4-1. It combines thermal-magnetic and electronic trip technology to handle both overload and short-circuit conditions on three-phase motors up to 22 kW at 400 V or 30 kW at 500 V. The rotary handle control provides manual on/off switching and lockout capability for isolation per IEC 60947-1, making it suitable for use as a disconnecting means in motor control centers.
Breaking capacity and fault interruption
Breaking capacity is 50 kA Icu at 240 V AC and 25 kA Icu at 415 V AC per IEC 60947-2, with UL ratings of 35 kA at 240 V and 18 kA at 480Y/277 V. This means the breaker can safely interrupt fault currents up to those levels without welding contacts or cascading failure upstream — critical for panel SCCR compliance. Magnetic trip is fixed at 850 A, providing instantaneous short-circuit protection that clears fast enough to protect downstream contactors and motor starters in the same branch.
Physical fit and panel integration
Dimensions are 6.5 in (165 mm) deep, 3.2 in (81 mm) wide, and 6.1 in (155 mm) tall. Connection pitch is 27 mm without spreaders or 35 mm with spreaders, matching standard busbar spacing for TeSys Deca panels. IP40 front-face protection and IK07 impact resistance mean the breaker is suited for enclosed panel mounting where accidental tool drops or dust ingress are concerns. Pollution degree 3 rating allows use in industrial environments with conductive contamination.
Lifecycle and sourcing reality
Standards compliance includes CSA C22.2 No 60947-4-1, UL 60947-4-1, EN/IEC 60947-4-1, and EN/IEC 60947-2, covering North American and European installations. Fire resistance tested to 960 °C per IEC 60695-2-11.
Durability and environmental ratings
Mechanical durability is 40,000 cycles; electrical durability is 20,000 cycles at AC-3, 440 V at half rated current, and 10,000 cycles at full rated current. Maximum operating rate is 25 cycles per hour — adequate for frequent motor starting applications like conveyors or pumps. Vibration withstand is ±1 mm at 2–13.2 Hz and 0.7 gn at 13.2–100 Hz per IEC 60068-2-6, with shock resistance of 15 gn at 11 ms. Operating altitude up to 5000 m, any mounting position accepted.
