50 A motor circuit breaker with 100 kA interrupting capacity
The GV4PEM50N: The electronic thermal-magnetic trip unit provides adjustable overload protection plus a fixed magnetic trip at 850 A, with phase-failure sensitivity per IEC 60947-4-1. This means the breaker detects a lost phase and trips before the motor single-phases to destruction — a standard requirement for motor-starting circuits.
Motor power coverage and AC-3 duty
At 400–415 V AC, the GV4PEM50N covers motors from 15 kW up to 22 kW in AC-3 duty (IEC 60947-4-1). At 500 V it reaches 30 kW, and at 660–690 V it handles up to 45 kW. The utilization category AC-3 means it is rated for starting squirrel-cage motors and disconnecting them under running conditions — not just isolating a stalled load. Mechanical durability is 40,000 cycles. For a motor-starting application that sees a few starts per shift, this breaker will outlast most contactors in the same cabinet.
Panel fit and environmental tolerance
Dimensions are 6.1 x 3.2 x 4.6 inches (155 x 81 x 116 mm), with EverLink BTR screw terminals that accept up to 95 mm² solid on the load side. IK07 impact resistance handles accidental tool drops during maintenance. This suits the breaker for installation in unheated shelters or mill basements where humidity cycles are common.
