80 A motor circuit breaker for TeSys Deca panels
The GV4PEM80N is a 3-pole motor circuit breaker from the TeSys GV4 range, rated 80 A continuous line current and designed for motor protection under IEC 60947-4-1 and UL 60947-4-1. It sits in the TeSys Deca family, which means it shares the same panel footprint and busbar system as the larger Deca contactors — a single cutout for the whole motor starter stack.
Trip unit and protection logic
Dual trip technology: thermal-magnetic for overload and short-circuit, plus an electronic module for additional protection curves. The magnetic trip is fixed at 1360 A (17× In), which coordinates well with downstream contactors rated for AC-3 switching duty. Phase-failure sensitivity per IEC 60947-4-1 is built in — no separate phase-loss relay needed. The thermal-magnetic element handles the overload region; the electronic module adds adjustable trip classes if the application requires tighter coordination. Pollution degree 3 rating means it tolerates conductive dust in unsealed enclosures — common in panel environments without filtered air.
Breaking capacity and selectivity headroom
At 400 V, the Icu is 50 kA (IEC 60947-2) and the UL rating at 480Y/277 V is 35 kA. This is a Category A breaker — it is not intended for reverse-feed or bidirectional current interruption, but for downstream motor protection where the fault current is well-characterized. For 690 V systems, the breaking capacity drops to 8 kA Icu — if the available fault current at 690 V exceeds that, an upstream fuse or breaker with higher interrupting rating is required. The 500 V rating of 25 kA Icu covers most European 500 V industrial networks.
Dimensions: 81 mm wide, 155 mm high, 116 mm deep — fits standard DIN-rail or screw-fixed mounting in a TeSys Deca backplate. The EverLink BTR screw terminals accept solid copper up to 95 mm² on the bottom (load side) and 70 mm² on the top (line side), with flexible cable up to 70 mm². Tightening torque is 9 N·m for the main power terminals, 5 N·m for the control loop connections. The gray RAL 7016 housing is standard for the TeSys Deca line, matching the contactor and overload relay in the same family.
The GV4 series is the successor to the earlier GV2 and GV3 motor circuit breakers, offering higher breaking capacities and the EverLink terminal system. No direct cross-reference to a different manufacturer's part — the TeSys Deca platform is Schneider-specific in its mounting and busbar interface.
