The Schneider HMIG2U is a Harmony GTU standard box HMI base unit built around an ARM Cortex-A9 processor with 256 MB RAM and 1 GB of onboard flash storage. It runs Vijeo Designer projects and comes with a built-in real-time clock and a slot for SD card expansion. Communication is handled by dual Ethernet ports (10BASE-T/100BASE-T), one RS-232C serial link (SUB-D 9), one RS-485 serial on RJ45, and two USB 2.0 ports (type A and mini B). It natively speaks Modbus, Modbus TCP/IP, and Uni-Telway out of the box. It carries UL 508, CSA C22.2, and Class I Division 2 approvals for use in non-incendive industrial locations.
If you are cross-shopping the smaller Harmony STU (order code HMIS5T), know this: the HMIG2U is a physically larger unit — 7.4 in (188 mm) wide vs 4.6 in (118 mm), 5.2 in (131 mm) high vs 3.86 in (98.15 mm), and 1.8 in (45 mm) deep vs 1.6 in (40.1 mm). The GTU is a base unit intended for panel mounting, while the STU is a rear-panel (clamp-on) style. The HMIG2U also brings more memory (256 MB RAM vs less on STU), a built-in RTC, an SD card slot, and dual Ethernet ports. It will not drop into a panel cut-out designed for HMIS5T without rework — the envelope is significantly bigger. For a new design or a panel with space, the GTU gives you more processing headroom and connectivity.
