The LC3D12AF7 is a TeSys D star delta starter from Schneider Electric, pre-wired for reduced-voltage starting of three-phase motors. It carries 3 x 3P (3 NO) power poles rated 12 A in AC-3 utilisation category, meaning it handles motor switching up to that current under full-load starts. The 110 V AC coil is built into the assembly, so no separate contactor coil selection is needed — it's a matched set for a standard star-delta transition.
Designed for panel mounting, the IP20 front face protects against finger contact during commissioning. The pre-wired format saves panel build time: terminals are already connected between the main and delta contactors inside the unit.
For a 400 V three-phase motor, that typically covers a 5.5 kW induction motor — the standard rule of thumb for star-delta starters. The 110 V AC coil means the control transformer or PLC output must supply 110 V AC; verify your control voltage matches before wiring. The unit operates from -40 to 70 °C at rated coil voltage, so it handles warm cabinets without derating, and stores down to -60 °C.
Environmental and mechanical tolerance
Rated for 3000 m altitude without derating — fine for most installations outside high-mountain sites. Vibration resistance: 2 Gn contactor open, 4 Gn closed over 5-300 Hz. Shock: 10 Gn open, 15 Gn closed for 11 ms. TH protective treatment per IEC 60068-2-30 means it withstands damp heat cycling, common in non-conditioned plant floors.
