What this DOL starter does
The Schneider LC4D40P7 is a direct-on-line (DOL) starter combining a contactor and fuse disconnector in one unit, rated for AC-3 utilization category — the standard duty for starting and stopping squirrel-cage induction motors under load. That coil voltage is fixed — no dual-tap or DC option on this variant, so your control circuit needs to supply 230 V AC clean. Motor power depends on line voltage: 22 kW at 415 V AC, 22 kW at 440 V, 22 kW at 500 V, 30 kW at 660–690 V, 18.5 kW at 380–400 V, and 11 kW at 220–230 V. The 415 V rating is the one most buyers check first — it covers a standard European 400 V class motor.
Mounts to a plate — not a DIN rail. The footprint is 281 mm wide × 143 mm tall × 130 mm deep. That width is the main constraint in a crowded panel; leave clearance for the fuse-disconnect handle swing and cable bending radius on the line side.
