The Schneider Electric LE4D12P7A05 is an enclosed direct-on-line (DOL) starter from the TeSys LE range, built for starting three-phase induction motors in standard industrial environments. Rated at 12 A conventional free-air thermal current (Ith) and AC-3 utilisation category, it switches motor loads up to 5.5 kW at 380–440 V AC or 7.5 kW at 500 V AC. The 230 V AC control coil is integral; the thermal overload relay is ordered separately, so you match the overload to the motor full-load current. The associated fuse is a 16 A aM 10x38 mm type, sized for type-2 coordination with the contactor.
The 12 A Ith rating is the thermal current in free air — it governs the continuous current the main power path can carry without exceeding temperature rise limits. For motor starting, the AC-3 rating (making and breaking of squirrel-cage motors during running) is the one that decides real-world fit: at 400 V, this starter handles a 5.5 kW motor; at 230 V, it drops to 3 kW. The IP65 enclosure means it can be installed in wet or dusty areas — food processing lines, washdown zones, outdoor conveyor gantries — without a secondary cabinet. The cable entries are pre-punched: two each of ISO20, ISO25, ISO32, and ISO40 on both top and bottom faces, giving flexibility for incoming supply and motor cable routing. The polycarbonate material is UV-stable for outdoor use but check the -5 to 40 °C operating range if the enclosure sits in direct sun or near a furnace.
