Product identity and status
The LE4D18U7 is an enclosed direct-on-line starter from the Schneider Electric TeSys LE range, built for standard motor-starting applications in industrial environments. The unit integrates a contactor and fuse disconnector within a polycarbonate enclosure, with a thermal overload relay ordered separately.
The 18 A conventional free air thermal current (Ith) sets the continuous current the starter can carry in open air without exceeding its temperature rise limits. For motor duty, the utilisation category is AC-3, which covers squirrel-cage motors during starting and switching off running motors. The motor power ratings span 4 kW at 220/230 V AC up to 10 kW at 500 V AC — these are the actual load sizes this starter can handle across common three-phase supply voltages. The associated fuse rating is 20 A, 10 x 38 mm aM type, which provides short-circuit protection coordinated with the starter. Compliance with IEC 60947-4-1 covers the performance and testing requirements for contactors and motor-starters, including the AC-3 utilisation category. The ambient air temperature range for operation is -5 to 40 °C, which is typical for enclosed starters in non-conditioned industrial spaces.
Enclosure and integration notes
The enclosure dimensions are 330 mm high, 186 mm wide, and 175.5 mm deep. Cable entries are provided on both top and bottom faces, with multiple ISO 20, ISO 25, ISO 32, and ISO 40 knockouts — two per size per face. This gives flexibility for cable gland sizing without drilling. The polycarbonate material is lightweight and corrosion-resistant, suited for wall-mounting near the motor rather than inside a central panel.
