MasterPact MTZ2 1600 A — fixed-mount power breaker for distribution protection
The LV846183 is a Schneider Electric MasterPact MTZ2 fixed circuit breaker, 4-pole, rated 1600 A at 40 °C, with an H2V performance class delivering 100 kA breaking capacity at 415 V AC. It is a Category B breaker (selectivity type) per EN/IEC 60947-2, meaning it coordinates with downstream devices to isolate only the faulted branch — critical for maintaining uptime on a distribution bus. The 537 mm width, 352 mm height, and 300 mm depth fit standard switchboard cubicle layouts; the 115 mm connection pitch matches common busbar drilling patterns. Rated insulation voltage is 1000 V AC, operational voltage 440 V AC. The short-time withstand current (Icw) is 100 kA for 1 second, which supports delayed-tripping coordination schemes. Impulse withstand is 12 kV.
The making capacity Icm is 220 kA at 415 V, which handles the asymmetrical peak current during fault closure. Electrical endurance is 10,000 cycles at rated current under AC-23A (motor switching) per EN/IEC 60947-2, and 6,000 cycles under AC-3 (more severe motor starting). Mechanical endurance is 15,000 cycles with periodic preventive maintenance. Maximum break time is 25 ms; maximum close time is 70 ms. Power dissipation is 170 W at rated current — factor this into enclosure ventilation calculations. Altitude derating applies above 2000 m. Pollution degree 3 (industrial environment) per IEC 60947-1.
Lifecycle and sourcing — active production, quoted to order
No official successor or replacement has been issued — this is the current-generation fixed breaker in the MTZ2 range. For BOM freeze or multi-year project planning, the MTZ2 platform has a published 15+ year availability commitment from Schneider Electric (industry-standard for MasterPact class breakers).
Integration — panel mounting and connection
Fixed mounting on rails or base plate. The 4-pole configuration has neutral on the left. Connection pitch of 115 mm aligns with standard busbar riser spacing in LV switchboards. Both front and rear connection are available on line and load sides — specify connection kit separately. IP30 protection rating (finger-safe front face) is standard for enclosed switchboard installation. The breaker ships without a control unit (Micrologic trip unit ordered separately based on protection curve requirements — the sensor rating range of 800–1600 A allows the same frame to cover multiple ampacities by swapping the trip unit and sensor).
