MasterPact MTZ2 3200 A — what this breaker delivers
The LV846196 is a Schneider Electric MasterPact MTZ2 drawout circuit breaker, 4 poles, rated 3200 A at 40 °C. It carries an H2V performance class — 100 kA interrupting capacity at 415 V AC (Ics = 100 kA at 440 V AC), with a making capacity of 220 kA at 440 V AC. That puts it in the heavy industrial tier: sized for main incoming feeders, generator ties, or large transformer protection where fault currents run high. Category B selectivity means the breaker is fully rated to coordinate with downstream devices — a fault on a branch won't take this main upstream. The 100 kA Icw for 0.5 s (75 kA for 3 s) gives protection engineers room to set long-time delays for selective coordination studies.
Drawout mounting and panel fit
Drawout chassis — the breaker slides in and out of a fixed cradle, so a technician can rack it to test/disconnected position without pulling cables. Mounts on rails or a base plate; connection pitch is 115 mm. Front and rear connections are both available, which simplifies busbar routing in switchgear lineups. Dimensions: 556 mm wide × 439 mm high × 403 mm deep. That depth is the full chassis envelope — account for it in the switchgear cubicle depth, especially with rear connections and cable bending radius.
Above 40 °C, apply the manufacturer's thermal derating curve. The 1000 V insulation voltage (Ui) and 12 kV impulse withstand (Uimp) confirm it's rated for 690 V systems common in industrial plants, though the operational voltage here is 440 V AC. Electrical durability: 5000 cycles at rated current under AC-23A (switching loads), 6000 cycles under AC-3 (motor switching). Mechanical durability is 15,000 cycles with periodic preventive maintenance. For a main breaker that cycles infrequently, that's a long service life — but if this is used for frequent switching (e.g., capacitor bank or furnace control), factor in the electrical endurance limit.
Also complies with IEC 61557-12 for power metering. Pollution degree 3 (industrial environment, not clean room). IP30 protection — suitable for enclosed switchgear, not outdoor or washdown locations.
