MasterPact MTZ2 4000 A drawout — selectivity and arc energy management
The Schneider LV846217 is a MasterPact MTZ2 drawout circuit breaker rated 4000 A at 40 °C with a H2V performance class delivering 100 kA breaking capacity at 415 V AC. That 100 kA Icu at 440 V AC and 100 kA Icw for 1 second give it the short-time withstand to coordinate downstream breakers in a Category B selective scheme — meaning a fault on a feeder branch clears without dropping the main bus. The 220 kA Icm making capacity handles the first asymmetric peak of a bolted fault without contact welding. The 115 mm connection pitch matches standard MasterPact busbar stacks and rear-connection adapters. Neutral is on the right. The control type is push-button with no separate control unit — the breaker ships as a bare frame, so you'll add the Micrologic trip unit separately based on your protection curve needs (LSIG, LSIV, etc.). Power dissipation runs 900 W at rated current — factor that into enclosure ventilation. The IP30 degree of protection is standard for switchgear compartments; it keeps accidental finger contact out but isn't washdown-rated. Altitude derating kicks in above 2000 m.

Mechanical durability is 15,000 cycles with periodic preventive maintenance. Electrical endurance at rated current: 5,000 cycles at 440 V AC under AC-23A (switching motor loads or mixed loads), and 6,000 cycles under AC-3 (motor switching) per EN/IEC 60947-3. Maximum breaking time is 25 ms, closing response time 70 ms. These numbers define the preventive maintenance interval — plan an inspection at around 12,000 mechanical operations or 4,000 electrical operations under load.
Physical integration
Dimensions: 556 mm wide, 439 mm high, 403 mm deep. Mounting support is rails or base plate. The drawout cradle means the breaker slides into a fixed chassis — you wire the cradle once, then the breaker inserts or withdraws for maintenance without disturbing the power connections. Plan for the 115 mm pole pitch when laying out busbar drops or rear-connection adapters.
