9 N·m holding brake, 4000 rpm — the specs that drive the selection
The MH31003P01F2200 is a three-phase servo motor with an integrated holding brake, part of Schneider Electric's MH3 series. It delivers a nominal torque of 8.45 N·m (74.79 lbf·in) when paired with an LXM52 drive at 115 V three-phase, and a continuous stall torque of 9 N·m (79.7 lbf·in) across the full 115–480 V three-phase range. The holding brake itself is rated at 9 N·m (79.7 lbf·in) with an 18 W pull-in power — enough to hold a vertical-axis load at rest without the drive holding current. The brake is engaged when the motor is unpowered, so the load stays put during a power loss or emergency stop.
Encoder feedback and mechanical fit
Feedback comes from a single-turn SinCos Hiperface encoder — a 1 Vpp analog sine/cosine interface that gives the drive absolute position within one revolution. This is the standard feedback for Lexium 52 and 62 series drives; no resolver or multi-turn adapter needed if the application only needs position within a single turn. The motor uses a smooth shaft (no keyway) with a 19 mm diameter and 40 mm shaft length, mounted on an international standard flange with a 100 mm flange size and 95 mm centring collar. The centring collar depth is 3.5 mm — make sure the mating bracket's pilot bore depth matches to avoid axial preload on the bearings.
Thermal limits and radial load capacity
Cooling is by natural convection only — no fan. The continuous power rating is 3270 W, and the stator resistance is 1.08 Ω with a copper hot temperature limit of 135 °C. In a confined cabinet or high-ambient environment, the motor will derate; the winding temperature rise is set by the load cycle, not just the RMS current. Maximum radial force at the shaft nose drops with speed: 1050 N at 1000 rpm down to 610 N at 5000 rpm. If the load is belt-driven, the belt tension plus the pulley overhung load must stay under the curve at the operating speed — exceeding it shortens bearing life fast. The motor carries an IP65 rating — sealed against dust ingress and low-pressure water jets from any direction. This makes it suitable for washdown areas in food processing or packaging lines, provided the connector is properly mated and the shaft seal is intact.
