Motor ratings and what they mean for the drive train
The MH31402P16F2200 is a three-phase servo motor with a continuous power rating of 3730 W (3.73 kW) at 400/480 V, which sets the thermal ceiling for continuous-duty applications like conveyors or spindle drives. Nominal speed is 1000 rpm, but the motor can reach 3500 rpm depending on the drive voltage — the 1000 rpm figure is the base speed at rated torque; above that the torque curve rolls off as the motor enters constant-power region. Nominal torque is 144.62 lbf·in (16.34 N·m) at 115 V three-phase, dropping to 90.01 lbf·in (10.17 N·m) at 400/480 V — the torque available at the shaft depends on the supply voltage and the drive's current limit, not just the motor's magnetic design. Peak stall torque reaches 491.2 lbf·in (55.5 N·m) across the 115–480 V range, which is the short-duration overload capability for acceleration or emergency stops — sustained operation at this level requires the drive's current foldback to prevent winding damage. Continuous stall torque is 163.7 lbf·in (18.5 N·m) at any voltage in the 115–480 V range — this is the torque the motor can hold indefinitely at zero speed without overheating, limited by the 16.83 A continuous stall current.
Encoder and feedback — single-turn SinCos Hiperface
The motor carries a single-turn SinCos Hiperface encoder, which provides absolute position within one revolution — no homing cycle needed on power-up, but multi-turn position tracking requires a battery-backed or multi-turn encoder variant. The SinCos analog track gives high-resolution velocity feedback for smooth low-speed control; the Hiperface protocol also carries temperature and diagnostic data back to the drive over the same cable pair.
Mechanical integration — flange, shaft, and brake
Motor flange size is 5.5 in (140 mm) with a centring collar diameter of 5.1 in (130 mm) and a centring collar depth of 0.1 in (3.5 mm) — this is an international standard flange (IEC 72-1), so it mounts directly to standard gearboxes and linear actuators without an adapter plate. Shaft diameter is 0.9 in (24 mm) with a parallel key and a shaft length of 2.0 in (50 mm) — the keyway transmits torque without slipping; the shaft end is plain (no second shaft end), so a brake or encoder on the rear is not an option without a custom shaft extension. The holding brake is rated at 159.3 lbf·in (18 N·m) holding torque and consumes 18 W pull-in power — it holds the load at zero speed when the drive is disabled, but the brake is not rated for dynamic stopping; use the drive's regenerative braking for deceleration. IP65 standard protection means the motor body is dust-tight and protected against low-pressure water jets — suitable for washdown areas but not for submersion or high-pressure spray (IP69K would be needed for food-grade washdown). Electrical connection uses rotatable right-angled connectors, which allow the cable exit to be oriented in four directions — useful when the motor is mounted in a tight cabinet or against a wall where a straight connector would not fit.
