MH3 series servo — 4750 W, 24 Nm continuous, 10-pole, IP65
The MH31403P12A2200 is a three-phase servo motor from Schneider Electric's MH3 series, delivering 4750 W continuous power with a continuous stall torque of 24 Nm (212.4 lbf.in) across 115–480 V three-phase supplies. Peak stall torque reaches 75 Nm (663.8 lbf.in), giving you headroom for acceleration transients without saturating the drive current loop.
Feedback and encoder — multiturn SinCos Hiperface
The multiturn SinCos Hiperface encoder provides absolute position feedback over multiple revolutions, eliminating the need for a home cycle on power-up in applications like rotary indexing tables or gantry systems. The sine/cosine signals give the drive fine interpolated position data for smooth low-speed control down to fractions of an rpm. Nominal speed depends on the supply voltage and drive combination: 750 rpm with LXM52 at 115 V single-phase, 1750 rpm at 230 V single-phase, or 3500 rpm at 400/480 V three-phase. Maximum mechanical speed is 4000 rpm, so the motor can overshoot the nominal range by 500 rpm for short bursts if the load inertia allows.
Thermal and mechanical limits — natural convection, IP65, radial force
Cooling is by natural convection — no fan means quieter operation and no fan failure mode, but the thermal time constant is longer. The continuous stall current is 18 A; the maximum current Irms is 62.32 A, so the drive's current limit should be set to protect the motor winding at 135 °C copper hot. IP65 standard protection means the motor body is sealed against dust ingress and low-pressure water jets — suitable for washdown environments in food processing or machining coolant splash. The rotatable right-angled connectors allow the cable exit to be oriented in 90° increments, helping with tight cable-tray routing. Maximum radial force at the shaft is 2420 N at 1000 rpm, dropping to 1670 N at 3000 rpm — this sets the belt-tension or direct-coupling limit. The 24 mm shaft with parallel key and 50 mm shaft length accepts standard couplings and pulleys.
Mounting and flange — 140 mm international standard, 4-hole pattern
The motor flange is 140 mm (5.5 in) with a 130 mm centring collar and 11 mm mounting holes on a 4-hole pattern — this is the standard IEC B5 flange size for this torque class. The centring collar depth is 3.5 mm, so the pilot bore in the mounting plate must be 130 mm +0/-0.05 mm for accurate concentricity. Overall length is 232 mm (9.1 in) from the mounting face to the rear cover — account for this when sizing the enclosure depth. There is no second shaft end and no holding brake, so the overall package is shorter than braked variants.
Electrical parameters — torque constant, back EMF, inductance, resistance
The torque constant is 1.33 Nm/A at 120 °C copper temperature — this is the hot value, so expect about 5–8% higher torque per amp when the motor is cold. The back EMF constant is 85.9 V/krpm, which limits the maximum speed at a given DC bus voltage: at 400 VDC bus, the motor reaches about 3500 rpm before the back EMF approaches the bus voltage. Stator inductance is 3 mH and stator resistance is 0.22 Ohm — these set the electrical time constant at about 13.6 ms, which is fast enough for current-loop bandwidths up to about 1 kHz. The drive's current-loop tuning should account for this L/R ratio to avoid overshoot on current steps.
