290 W continuous, 55 mm flange — SH3 frame sizing
The SH30551P01A2100 is a Schneider Electric SH3 series servo motor rated for 290 W continuous power on a 55 mm international standard flange. This frame size and power class fit compact motion axes — pick-and-place gantries, labeling stations, or small conveyor indexing where the motor mounts directly to the machine frame without a gearbox. Three-phase supply only — the motor delivers its full torque and speed envelope on 400 V or 480 V three-phase, where nominal speed reaches 6000 rpm and nominal torque holds at 0.35 Nm. On single-phase 115 V or 230 V the nominal speed drops to 2000 rpm or 4000 rpm respectively, with torque at 0.5 Nm. If your cabinet only has single-phase, budget for the reduced top speed.
Absolute single-turn SinCos Hiperface encoder — no homing cycle
The absolute single-turn SinCos Hiperface encoder reports position at power-up without a reference run — the controller reads the absolute position from the SinCos tracks on the first communication cycle. Single-turn means the encoder tracks one mechanical revolution; multi-turn applications (spindles, long belts) need a multi-turn encoder variant. Peak stall torque hits 1.5 Nm across the 115-480 V three-phase range, drawing 2.9 A for up to 3 seconds — useful for breaking away a stuck load or accelerating through a short high-torque segment. The back EMF constant is 40 V/krpm at 20°C, so at 6000 rpm the motor generates 240 V line-to-line back EMF — the drive DC bus must stay above this to maintain current control.
IP65, smooth shaft, rotatable connector — integration constraints
The shaft is smooth (no keyway), so the coupling must grip by friction or use a set-screw hub; verify the coupling bore matches the 9 mm shaft diameter and 20 mm shaft length. The rotatable right-angled connector lets the cable exit in any of four orientations — useful when the motor sits in a tight corner and the cable needs to route away from moving parts. No holding brake is fitted on this variant; if the vertical axis must hold position when power drops, add an external brake or choose a SH3 variant with the brake option. Maximum radial force at the shaft nose derates with speed: 340 N at 1000 rpm down to 170 N at 8000 rpm. The maximum axial force is 40 N. If the load applies a belt tension or overhung load, check the radial force curve against the operating speed — exceeding it shortens bearing life.
