Motor ratings and what they mean for the machine
The SH31003M11F1200: This is a three-phase, 4-pole servo motor rated 1500 W continuous power — the sizing reference for the application is SH31003M. The nominal speed depends on the supply: 500 rpm on 115 V single-phase, 1000 rpm on 230 V single-phase, 2000 rpm on 400 V three-phase, and 2400 rpm on 480 V three-phase. That speed range means one motor covers both low-speed positioning and higher-throughput transfer lines, but the drive must be configured for the actual line voltage. Nominal torque varies with voltage too: 7.8 N.m at 115 V single-phase, dropping to 6.76 N.m at 480 V three-phase. The holding brake delivers 9 N.m — enough to hold a vertical axis load at rest without servo drive power, which is the main reason this variant gets specified over the non-brake version. Peak stall torque is 28.3 N.m across the 115–480 V three-phase range, giving a 3.5× overload margin for acceleration or overcoming static friction. Maximum continuous current is 14.7 A, and the 3-second peak current is the same figure — the drive's continuous rating must match or exceed this to avoid I²t trips during sustained moves. The torque constant is 2.35 N.m/A at 120 °C copper temperature, so the drive current loop gain should be tuned to that hot-copper value, not the cold motor resistance.
Encoder, feedback, and position hold
The encoder is an absolute single-turn SinCos Hiperface type — position is known immediately on power-up without a homing cycle, which saves time on multi-axis machines after a power loss. Single-turn means the absolute position range is one revolution; for multi-turn applications the drive or controller must track turns externally. Back EMF constant is 148 V/krpm at 20 °C — this sets the maximum speed the drive can achieve given its DC bus voltage. At 480 V three-phase input, the bus is roughly 680 VDC, so the motor can reach its 2400 rpm ceiling without field weakening. Stator resistance is 5.3 Ω and inductance is 17.4 mH, which influences the current-loop bandwidth and the PWM ripple current magnitude.
Environmental sealing and mechanical fit
The motor body is rated IP65, the shaft bushing IP65, and the housing IP67 per IEC 60034-5. That means the motor withstands washdown — suitable for food-and-beverage lines or outdoor installations where hose-down cleaning is routine. The straight connector exits axially or radially depending on orientation; the connector itself must be mated with the matching IP-rated cable assembly to maintain the seal. Flange size is 100 mm (3.9 in) with an international standard flange pattern — mounts to standard gearboxes or machine frames without an adapter plate. Centring collar diameter is 95 mm with a 3.5 mm depth, and the four mounting holes are 9 mm diameter on the flange bolt circle. Overall length is 271.5 mm (10.7 in) — check the envelope before committing to a retrofit in a tight cabinet. Shaft diameter is 19 mm (0.7 in) with a parallel key, key width 6 mm, shaft length 40 mm. Maximum radial force at the shaft centre is 1050 N at 1000 rpm, derating to 660 N at 4000 rpm — belt-drive or overhung-load applications must respect this curve to avoid bearing damage. Maximum axial force is 160 N.
