Three-phase servo motor, 2500 W continuous, 3000 rpm at 400 V — the SH3 frame
The SH31004P0BA4100 is a three-phase servo motor from Schneider Electric's SH3 series, part of the Lexium 32 family. It delivers 2500 W continuous power and a continuous stall torque of 10 N.m at 115-480 V three-phase, with a peak stall torque of 40.5 N.m for transient acceleration loads. Nominal speed depends on the supply: 1500 rpm at 230 V single-phase, 3000 rpm at 400 V three-phase, and 3600 rpm at 480 V three-phase. The nominal torque derates with voltage — 9.5 N.m at 230 V, 7.9 N.m at 400 V, and 6.9 N.m at 480 V — so the drive supply voltage directly sets the available torque at rated speed.
The absolute multiturn Hiperface DSL encoder provides position and commutation feedback over a single-cable interface, eliminating a separate feedback cable. This reduces wiring complexity and the number of connector penetrations on the motor, but requires a compatible drive with Hiperface DSL support. Cooling is by natural convection — no integrated fan. This means the continuous torque rating assumes free airflow around the motor body; enclosing the motor in a tight cabinet or applying a sustained overload will raise the winding temperature above the 130 °C copper hot limit unless the duty cycle is reduced. The IP65 rating per IEC 60034-5 applies to both the motor body and the shaft bushing, making this motor suitable for washdown environments in food processing, beverage, or pharmaceutical lines where hose-directed cleaning is routine. The shaft seal is the wet-end barrier — verify the connector and cable entry also meet the required ingress protection for the installation.
Mechanical interface — flange, shaft, and bearing load limits
The motor mounts on an international standard flange with a 100 mm flange size, a 95 mm centring collar diameter, and a 3.5 mm centring collar depth. Four 9 mm mounting holes secure the motor to the machine frame — the centring collar ensures concentricity with the driven load. The shaft is smooth (no keyway) with a 24 mm diameter and 50 mm shaft length. A clamping-type coupling or friction-locking hub is required — a keyed coupling will not fit. The maximum radial force on the bearing is 145 N at 1000 rpm, derating to 100 N at 3000 rpm; the maximum axial force is 20 N. Exceeding these limits reduces bearing life or causes premature failure. Overall motor length is 276.5 mm (10.9 in) — account for this when laying out the machine envelope, including clearance for the straight or right-angled connector option. The electrical connection uses a quicklock rotatable right-angled connector, which can be oriented after installation to route the cable away from moving parts.
Electrical parameters — matching the drive to the motor
The back EMF constant is 103 V/krpm at 20 °C. At 3000 rpm, the motor generates 309 V back EMF — the drive's DC bus voltage must exceed this to maintain current control at high speed. The stator resistance is 1.8 Ohm and inductance is 13 mH, which influence the current ripple and the minimum switching frequency for acceptable harmonic distortion. The maximum continuous current (Irms) is 32.3 A, with a 3-second peak of the same value. The continuous stall current is 6.2 A — the drive must be rated to supply at least 32.3 A peak for acceleration and 6.2 A continuously for holding torque at zero speed. The 4-pole motor design is standard for this speed/torque range.
