Servo loop anchor — SH3 with brake and Hiperface DSL
The SH31004P0BF4100 is a 2.5 kW continuous power servo motor from the SH3 series, built for three-phase supplies. It carries an absolute multiturn Hiperface DSL encoder — single-cable feedback that carries power and position data on one hybrid cable, cutting the cable count in half compared to a separate encoder and power run. The holding brake delivers 12 N·m holding torque, enough to lock the vertical axis on a machining centre Z-spindle or a gantry Z-stage when power drops. The motor flange is 100 mm square with a 24 mm smooth shaft — the smooth shaft means the coupling bore is the fit interface, not a keyway.
Speed and torque across the supply range
Nominal speed depends on the supply: 1500 rpm on 230 V single-phase, 3000 rpm on 400 V three-phase, and 3600 rpm on 480 V three-phase. The nominal torque follows the same voltage curve — 9.5 N·m at 230 V single-phase, 7.9 N·m at 400 V three-phase, and 6.9 N·m at 480 V three-phase. The peak stall torque is 40.5 N·m across the 115–480 V three-phase range, so acceleration is not voltage-limited in that window. Continuous stall torque is 10 N·m at 115–480 V three-phase, with a continuous stall current of 6.2 A. The maximum current Irms is 32.3 A — this sets the drive's peak current requirement for the 3-second overload window.
Thermal limits and integration constraints
Cooling is by natural convection — no fan, so the motor relies on the mounting flange and ambient airflow to shed heat. The IP65 rating (motor body and shaft bushing per IEC 60034-5) means it withstands washdown spray, but the natural convection limits the duty cycle in a sealed, still-air enclosure. The hot-spot copper temperature is 130 °C, and the torque constant is specified at 120 °C — the winding resistance at that temperature is the real-world operating point. The electrical connection is a rotatable right-angled connector with quick-lock — the cable exit angle can be oriented after installation, which helps in tight cable-tray routing. The motor flange is the international standard 100 mm pattern with a 95 mm centring collar and 3.5 mm collar depth. Mounting holes are 9.0 mm diameter on the flange corners.
