Sizing the supply to the winding
The SH31004P1AF4100: This SH3 frame motor delivers different nominal torque depending on the supply voltage feeding the drive: 9.5 N.m at 230 V single-phase input, 7.9 N.m at 400 V three-phase, and 6.9 N.m at 480 V three-phase — the winding is optimized for the higher-voltage configuration, so the buyer must match the motor's rated performance to the actual line voltage at the cabinet. Nominal speed also shifts with voltage: 1500 rpm at 230 V single-phase, 3000 rpm at 400 V three-phase, and 3600 rpm at 480 V three-phase. Continuous output power is 2500 W across the three-phase supply range, dropping to 1490 W on single-phase 230 V input — the single-phase derating is significant and should be factored into the axis cycle time calculation.
Brake and encoder — what they mean for the drive train
The holding brake is integral to the motor, rated 12 N.m holding torque — sufficient to hold a vertical load on a stopped axis without external brake resistors. Brake pull-in power is 18 W; the drive's 24 VDC brake output must supply this continuously while the brake is released. Encoder is absolute single-turn Hiperface DSL, a digital serial protocol that combines position feedback and motor temperature monitoring over a single cable pair. This encoder type requires a drive with a Hiperface DSL interface — Lexium 32 or compatible — and does not work with standard incremental encoder inputs or EnDat-only drives.
Thermal limits and overload margin
Continuous stall torque is 10 N.m across the 115-480 V three-phase range, while peak stall torque reaches 40.5 N.m — a 4× overload capability for short-duration acceleration or deceleration events. The motor is naturally convection-cooled (no fan), so the continuous rating assumes free airflow around the frame; mounting in a confined cabinet or alongside heat sources will reduce the usable continuous torque. Maximum current Irms is 32.3 A, with the same figure for the 3-second peak output — the drive's continuous and peak current ratings must match or exceed this to avoid current-limiting the axis during moves.
Mechanical interface and IP rating
Flange size is 100 mm with a centring collar depth of 3.5 mm — standard international flange pattern, mounts directly to most gearboxes and machine frames without an adapter plate. Shaft diameter is 24 mm with a parallel key, shaft length 50 mm. IP65 rating applies to both the motor body and the shaft bushing per IEC 60034-5 — the seal at the shaft exit is as protected as the housing, so the motor withstands washdown and high-humidity environments without requiring an external boot or seal kit.
