Motor ratings and what they mean for your axis
The SH31401M01A1200 is a three-phase servo motor from Schneider Electric's SH3 series, delivering 1700 W continuous power. Its nominal torque sits at 97.4 lbf.in (11 N.m) when fed from 115 V single phase, dropping slightly to 92.05 lbf.in (10.4 N.m) at 480 V three phase — the torque curve is flat across the voltage range, so the motor's mechanical output is consistent regardless of the line supply you're working with. Peak stall torque reaches 239.0 lbf.in (27 N.m) across the 115...480 V three-phase range, giving you a 2.4× overload margin for acceleration or transient loads. Continuous stall torque is 98.2 lbf.in (11.1 N.m) at the same voltage range, sustained by a continuous stall current of 4 A. Maximum mechanical speed is 4000 rpm, but the nominal speed depends on your supply: 375 rpm at 115 V single phase, 750 rpm at 230 V single phase, 1500 rpm at 400 V three phase, and 1800 rpm at 480 V three phase. The nominal output power scales similarly — 430 W at 115 V single phase up to 1960 W at 480 V three phase — so the motor's power delivery is proportional to the line voltage.
Encoder and feedback — absolute position without homing
This motor carries an absolute single-turn SinCos Hiperface encoder. Single-turn means it tracks position within one revolution; on power-up the drive knows the shaft angle without a homing sequence, which cuts cycle time on machines that power-cycle between batches. The SinCos interface is analog sine/cosine signals plus a digital data channel — compatible with Schneider's Lexium drives and many third-party servo drives that support Hiperface. No battery backup needed for the single-turn data.
Mechanical fit — flange, shaft, and cooling
The motor uses an international standard flange with a 5.5 in (140 mm) flange size and a 5.1 in (130 mm) centring collar diameter. Mounting holes are 0.4 in (11 mm) diameter, and the centring collar depth is 0.1 in (3.5 mm) — standard dimensions for IEC frame mounting. Shaft diameter is 0.9 in (24 mm) with a smooth shaft (no keyway) and a shaft length of 2.0 in (50 mm). The key width is 0.3 in (8 mm) — if you need a keyed coupling, the shaft is smooth, so a clamping-style coupling is the intended fit. Overall length is 8.6 in (217.5 mm). Cooling is by natural convection — no integrated fan, so the motor relies on ambient airflow or the machine's own ventilation. The IP rating is IP65 for the motor body and shaft bushing, with IP67 for the housing, making it suitable for washdown environments per IEC 60034-5.
Electrical parameters for drive sizing
Torque constant is 2.78 N.m/A at 248 °F (120 °C) — the hot winding condition. Back EMF constant is 193 V/krpm at 68 °F (20 °C) — cold condition. The temperature copper hot limit is 266 °F (130 °C), so the winding insulation class supports continuous operation at that temperature. Maximum axial force (Fa) is 300 N, and maximum radial force (Fr) is speed-dependent: 1930 N at 1000 rpm, 1530 N at 2000 rpm, 1340 N at 3000 rpm. These bearing load limits must be respected when sizing pulleys or direct-drive couplings.
The sizing reference is SH31401M, which is the base motor code for drive selection. The electrical connection uses a straight connector. This variant is supplied without a holding brake — if your application requires a brake for vertical-axis holding, you would need the braked version of this frame.
