Supply-voltage-dependent speed and torque
The SH31401M11F1200: This SH3 servo motor's nominal speed and torque shift with the supply voltage — a detail that matters when the same motor part number is wired into different regional line voltages. At 400 V three-phase the motor delivers 1500 rpm and 10.6 N.m nominal torque; at 480 V three-phase it runs 1800 rpm at 10.4 N.m. The torque constant is 2.78 N.m/A at 120 °C copper temperature, so the drive's current loop directly sets the available torque. The continuous power rating is 1700 W, cooled by natural convection — no external fan or water jacket needed. This simplifies installation in clean environments but means the motor relies on its own surface area and the machine frame for heat rejection; derate if mounted in a confined space or near heat sources.
Brake and encoder — what they mean for the build
The holding brake delivers 23 N.m static torque — enough to hold a vertical load or keep the axis stationary when the drive is disabled. This is a holding brake, not a dynamic stopping brake; the drive handles deceleration, and the brake locks the shaft after zero speed is reached. The brake is factory-fitted and wired through the motor connector. The absolute single-turn SinCos Hiperface encoder reports position within one revolution at power-up. No homing sequence is needed on each power cycle for rotary applications — the drive reads absolute position immediately. Single-turn means the position wraps every 360 mechanical degrees; for multi-turn applications a multi-turn encoder variant would be required.
Environmental sealing and mechanical fit
The motor carries IP65 on the motor body and shaft bushing, and IP67 on the housing — the housing can survive temporary submersion, while the motor body and shaft seal handle washdown spray. This suits food, beverage, or wet machining lines where hose-down cleaning is routine. The flange size is 140 mm (5.5 in) with an international standard pattern — mounting holes at 11 mm diameter on a 130 mm centring collar. The shaft is 24 mm diameter with a parallel key, 50 mm shaft length. Overall length is 255.5 mm (10.06 in). The straight connector exits axially; allow clearance behind the motor for the cable bend radius.
Peak and continuous torque envelope
Peak stall torque is 27 N.m across the 115–480 V three-phase range, available for acceleration transients. The drive must supply the maximum current of 10.8 A Irms to reach this peak. Continuous stall torque is 11.1 N.m at 4 A continuous stall current — the motor can hold this torque at zero speed indefinitely without overheating, which sets the holding torque for tensioning or clamping applications.
Sourcing and lifecycle — active production
The sizing reference is SH31401M, which groups this motor with the SH3 family. The straight connector version (M11F1200 suffix) is the standard configuration; verify the connector orientation and cable exit direction match the machine layout before ordering.
