3900 W continuous — the thermal ceiling for duty cycle planning
The SH31402P12A2100: This SH3-frame motor delivers 3900 W continuous power. The nominal torque at 400 V three-phase is 12.3 N.m at 3000 rpm. That torque number drops to 9.7 N.m at 480 V — the voltage-to-torque relationship isn't flat, so don't assume constant torque across the input range when pairing the drive. Peak stall torque hits 60.1 N.m across the 115–480 V three-phase range, but the continuous stall torque is 19.5 N.m. The peak is for acceleration events, not sustained positioning. Maximum current draw is 44.1 A — the drive's peak current rating needs to clear that number or you'll trip on hard moves.
Absolute multiturn encoder — no homing sequence at power-up
The absolute multiturn SinCos Hiperface encoder holds position across power cycles. On a packaging line that gets power-cycled between shifts, that saves the homing routine every startup. The drive reads the position on boot — no prox sensor needed for a home reference. The motor has 5 poles, so the pole-pair count matters for the drive's encoder feedback configuration. Make sure the drive parameter for motor poles matches this value, or the speed loop gains will be off.
IP65 and natural convection — mounting constraints
IP65 on the motor body and shaft bushing means it handles washdown without a secondary cover — food processing or wet environments are fine. But cooling is natural convection, so you need clearance around the housing for airflow. Don't box it in against a panel wall or inside a tight enclosure. The rotatable right-angled connector lets you orient the cable exit on-site. In a tight cabinet that saves a right-angle adapter and one more potential leak point. The connector rotates, so you can dress the cable up, down, or sideways without a separate swivel. Flange size is 140 mm with a centring collar diameter of 130 mm and a 3.5 mm collar depth. The shaft is 24 mm diameter with a parallel key, 50 mm shaft length. Mounting uses an international standard flange — bolts through the 11 mm mounting holes.
