The SH31404P02A2100 is a 4 kW (4040 W) continuous power servo motor from Schneider Electric's SH3 series, designed for precision motion control in packaging, material handling, and machine tool applications.
Multi-voltage flexibility and torque curves
This motor runs on three-phase 400 V or 480 V supplies, and also supports single-phase 115 V or 230 V inputs — though at reduced output. On 115 V single-phase, nominal torque drops to 30.2 N·m (267.3 lbf·in) at 750 rpm; on 480 V three-phase, it reaches 11.1 N·m (98.2 lbf·in) at 3600 rpm. The torque constant is 1.57 N·m/A at 120 °C (248 °F) copper temperature, and the back EMF constant is 104 V/krpm at 20 °C (68 °F) — useful numbers for tuning the drive current loop and estimating regeneration voltage during deceleration. Stator resistance is 0.28 Ω and inductance is 2.035 mH, giving a reasonable electrical time constant for the servo drive to manage current ripple at typical PWM frequencies.
Encoder feedback and environmental protection
Fitted with an absolute multiturn SinCos Hiperface encoder, this motor provides position feedback without needing a home cycle on power-up — the drive knows the shaft angle immediately, which cuts commissioning time on multi-axis lines. The IP65 rating (per IEC 60034-5) covers both the motor body and the shaft bushing, so it handles washdown environments and dusty factory floors without additional shrouding. Natural convection cooling means no fan — fewer moving parts to fail, but you need to account for the heat dissipation in the cabinet layout; the motor relies on its own surface area and the mounting flange to shed heat.
Mechanical interface and mounting
The motor uses an international standard flange (140 mm / 5.5 in flange size) with a 130 mm centring collar and 3.5 mm collar depth — mates to standard gearbox or machine frame interfaces without adapter plates. Smooth shaft, 24 mm diameter, 50 mm length — no keyway, so you'll need a clamping or friction-lock coupling. Maximum radial force at 3000 rpm is 1840 N; axial force limit is 300 N. Overall length is 382.5 mm (15.06 in) — check your axis clearance before mounting, especially in retrofits where the old motor was shorter.
The motor ships with a rotatable right-angled connector, which simplifies cable routing in tight panels.
