Sizing this SH3 motor for the load
The SH31404P12A2100 is a three-phase servo motor from Schneider's SH3 series, delivering 4040 W continuous power at 400 V three-phase supply. At that voltage it spins 3000 rpm nominal, with a nominal torque of 114.2 lbf·in (12.9 N·m) — but the same motor on 480 V three-phase bumps torque to 98.2 lbf·in (11.1 N·m) at 3600 rpm. Peak stall torque hits 1167.4 lbf·in (131.9 N·m) across the 115–480 V three-phase range, so this motor handles short-duration overloads well above its continuous rating. The 5-pole design and natural convection cooling mean it sheds heat through the frame — no fan to fail, but derate if the ambient in the enclosure runs hot.
Mounting and shaft interface
The motor uses an international standard flange with a 140 mm (5.5 in) flange size and a centring collar that's 130 mm (5.1 in) in diameter with a 3.5 mm (0.1 in) depth. Four mounting holes on a 11 mm (0.4 in) diameter pattern — confirm the mating face on your machine base accepts this bolt circle before ordering. The shaft is 24 mm (0.9 in) diameter with a 50 mm (2.0 in) length and a parallel key — key width 8 mm (0.3 in). Maximum radial force at the shaft is 2660 N at 1000 rpm, dropping to 1840 N at 3000 rpm. Maximum axial force is 300 N — keep coupling or belt tension within that limit to avoid bearing damage.
Encoder feedback and electrical connections
The encoder is an absolute multiturn SinCos Hiperface type — this gives position feedback without a homing cycle after power loss, which saves time on multi-axis lines. The electrical connection uses a rotatable right-angled connector, so you can orient the cable exit to clear adjacent hardware. Stator resistance is 0.28 Ω and inductance is 2.035 mH. The torque constant is 1.57 N·m/A at 120 °C (248 °F) copper temperature, and the back EMF constant is 104 V/krpm at 20 °C (68 °F). Maximum continuous current is 95.6 A RMS — size the drive and cabling for that peak.
