Automatic transfer switch for critical source changeover
The Schneider Electric TA10D3L0504TPE is a TransferPacT automatic transfer switch (ATS) rated for 50 A at 400 V AC, 50/60 Hz, in a 3-pole configuration. It handles AC-33B utilization category loads — that means it is designed for mixed motor and resistive loads in automatic or manual source changeover applications, per IEC 60947-6-1. The unit carries a PC-class rating (switch-disconnector), with a suitability-for-isolation marking, so it can be used as a service-entrance-rated transfer switch where local codes require visible break isolation. Rated short-time withstand current (Icw) is 5 kA for 0.1 s, and the short-circuit making capacity (Icm) reaches 15 kA for the switch-disconnector alone at 400 V AC. With an upstream protection circuit breaker, the Icm jumps to 75 kA at 400 V AC — a useful headroom for high-fault installations. Mechanical durability is 8000 cycles, which is typical for a panel-mounted ATS in commercial or light industrial service.
Mounting and enclosure integration
Mounting is fixed to a plate or DIN rail (the 18 mm connection pitch suits standard DIN-rail terminal spacing). Dimensions are 310 mm wide, 147 mm high, and 94 mm deep — this is a fairly wide unit, so plan for panel space accordingly. The upside and downside connections are both screwed terminals; no special lug kit required for standard copper conductors. IP protection is split: the front face in auto mode is IP40 (tool-protected), while inside the enclosure in manual mode it drops to IP20 (finger-safe). The unit includes a mechanical interlock and a padlockable OFF position. Signal contacts are configurable as 1 NO + 2 NC, or 1 NC + 2 NO, or 2 NO — three options, so you can pick the auxiliary contact arrangement that matches your PLC or annunciator input scheme.
Rated impulse withstand voltage (Uimp) is 6 kV for both switch and controller, matching standard surge-withstand requirements for 400 V class installations.
