The Schneider Electric TransferPacT TA10D4S1004TPE is a PC-class automatic transfer switch rated 100 A at 400 V AC, 50/60 Hz, with four poles and a rotary selector for manual override. It is built to IEC 60947-6-1, the standard governing transfer switches for changeover of supply sources in low-voltage distribution. PC class means the switch is rated for uninterrupted duty — it is not a circuit breaker but a source-selector designed to carry full load continuously and transfer between normal and emergency supplies without interrupting the load for more than the switching time. Front-face protection is IP40 in auto mode; inside the enclosure the live parts are IP20 — standard for a panel-mounted device where the enclosure provides the outer seal.
The rated short-time withstand current (Icw) is 5 kA for 0.1 s — that is the fault current the switch can carry for 100 ms without welding contacts or degrading the mechanism. The short-circuit making capacity (Icm) is 15 kA for the switch alone at 400 V AC, and 75 kA when paired with an upstream circuit breaker. That 75 kA figure matters for coordination studies: it tells the engineer the ATS can close onto a fault of that magnitude if the upstream breaker clears it. Mechanical interlocking between the normal and emergency contact sets is built in, preventing both sources from closing simultaneously.
