The Schneider Electric TA16D4S0804TPE is a TransferPacT automatic transfer switch (ATS) rated 80 A continuous with four poles, built to the PC class standard per IEC 60947-6-1. That PC rating means the switch is intended for open-transition transfer of sources — it makes and breaks load current but is not listed for fault making and breaking like a circuit breaker.
The 80 A uninterrupted rating (Ith 80 A at 60 °C) sets the continuous current capacity in free air. For a transfer switch, this is the number that decides conductor sizing and upstream protection coordination — not a peak or inrush figure. The short-time withstand Icw is 10 kA for 0.1 s, meaning the switch can ride through a fault of that magnitude while upstream protection clears it. The mechanical interlocking between sources is built in, so both line and generator feeds can never close simultaneously. That is the core safety function of any ATS, and here it is backed by a mechanical durability rating of 10,000 cycles — enough for years of weekly generator tests in a commercial or light-industrial installation.
Mounts to a plate or DIN rail with a fixed footprint: 351 mm wide, 164 mm tall, 95 mm deep. Connection pitch is 30 mm, and both line and load terminations are screwed type — expect to torque per the nameplate values. The front face is IP40 in auto mode (tools required to access the selector), and inside the enclosure the live parts are IP20 in manual mode, which is standard for panel-mounted gear.
This part is current production — no end-of-life notice.
