What this controller covers
The Schneider Electric TM172PDG28RI is a Modicon M172 programmable controller built for HVAC duty, carrying 28 total I/O with 8 analog inputs configurable by pair. It packs a backlit LCD, dual RS485 ports, and Ethernet with built-in BACnet/IP and Modbus TCP — enough to run a rooftop unit or air handler as both controller and gateway without an extra module.
I/O and sensor handling
The analog inputs handle NTC 103AT-2 and NK103 thermistors, Pt1000 RTDs, PTC, 0–10 V, 0–5 V, and 4–20 mA — configured by pair via software. Accuracy on the Pt1000 spans from ±1.5 °C in the -50…100 °C band to ±10 °C at the extremes, so match the probe to the application. The 8 discrete inputs are sink/source configurable at 24 V AC/DC; outputs are relay (3 A SPDT or SPST) plus 2 analog voltage and 2 analog voltage/current/PWM. A built-in 24 V DC sensor supply (150 mA) powers loop-powered transmitters.
Communications and display
Two RS485 screw-terminal ports run Modbus serial or BACnet MS/TP; the Ethernet port runs Modbus TCP and BACnet IP with a web server. That means the controller can talk to a BAS head-end directly and serve a local display page. The 128 × 64 backlit LCD shows system status and programmable screens — useful for commissioning without a laptop.
Power and mounting
Supply is 24 V AC/DC (±10% AC, 20…38 V DC); draws 12 W. IP20 rated, mounts on a panel cutout or DIN rail using an accessory. Dimensions: 5.7 in wide, 4.3 in tall, 2.4 in deep — fits a standard 144 mm × 110 mm footprint. Operating temperature -4…149 °F (-20…65 °C), storage -22…158 °F (-30…70 °C).
