The Schneider Electric TM5NCO1K is a CANopen communication module for the Modicon TM5 distributed I/O system, a 12.5 mm slice that drops onto the TM5 bus next to digital and analog slices on the same backplane. The serial link is a male SUB-D 9 carrying CANopen, isolated from the bus, with the baud-rate ladder auto-detected across 10, 20, 50, 125, 250, 500, 800 and 1000 Kbit/s — that autodetect is what saves a DIP-switch step on a brownfield retrofit where the existing slaves may already be running 500 or 250 Kbit/s. It draws 300 mA on the TM5 bus for a 1.5 W dissipation, which is the number that decides whether an existing compact block can absorb one more slice without re-budgeting the power supply.
Where this class of part sits
In a Modicon TM5 island, the communication slice is the gateway between a controller slice on the TM5 backplane and a CANopen sub-network of drives, valve manifolds, third-party encoders or remote I/O blocks. Electrical connection is via a removable spring terminal block on the bus side, with four front-face LEDs covering PWR, RUN, ERROR and TM5 bus TxD status.
Thermal envelope — read this before laying out the cabinet
Ambient air temperature for operation is split by mounting orientation: vertical installation is rated −10…50 °C; horizontal installation runs to −10…55 °C without derating, and reaches −10…60 °C only with a published derating factor. Storage range is −40…70 °C, so handling in a cold warehouse is not the constraint — running orientation inside a cabinet is. The slice holds IP20 with pollution degree 2, 15 gn shock for 11 ms and 1 gn / 3.5 mm vibration on DIN rail (8.4…150 Hz / 5…8.4 Hz respectively), so it is designed for a closed industrial cabinet rather than a field-side enclosure.

The module carries CE marking and is qualified to CSA C22.2 No 213, IEC 61131-2, UL 508 and CSA C22.2 No 142 — the usual Modicon TM5 declaration set that drops onto a UL-listed industrial control panel file.
