Active 4-channel 4-20 mA input slice for Modicon TM5
The TM5SAI4AFS is an active-production analog input module in the Modicon TM5 family, giving four current-loop inputs accepting 4-20 mA with 24-bit resolution and 1 µA measurement granularity. It draws 38 mA from the 24 VDC field supply and 2 mA from the 5 VDC backplane bus, with 500 Vrms isolation between the input channels and the bus — clean separation for mixed-voltage panels. Software-configurable input filtering covers 1 ms through 66.7 ms, with sampling durations from 5 ms to 62 ms, so the same module handles fast process signals or slow tank-level loops without hardware swaps.
DIN-rail footprint and environmental limits
The module measures 30 mm wide by 105 mm tall by 60 mm deep — a single-wide slice that fits standard TM5 backplane spacing without crowding adjacent I/O. Rated IP20 with pollution degree 2, it is intended for clean indoor enclosures; ambient operating range is 0 to 55 °C horizontal or 0 to 40 °C vertical, with 5-95 % non-condensing humidity. Vibration resistance is 1 gn at 8.4-150 Hz on DIN rail, and shock rated at 15 gn for 11 ms — adequate for most industrial cabinet environments short of heavy rotating machinery.

The module carries CE marking and is listed against UL 508, ISO 13849-1, IEC 61508, IEC 61511, EN 50156-1, and IEC 62061 — covering industrial control, functional safety, and burner/ furnace applications. Power dissipation is 0.25 W typical, 1.7 W maximum — thermal load is negligible even in a densely packed TM5 rack.
