2-Channel Analog Output for the Modicon TM5 Platform
The Schneider TM5SAO2H is a 2-channel analog output module within the Modicon TM5 system, providing current (0...20 mA) and voltage (±10 V) outputs with a response time ≤1 ms and a width of 12.5 mm. Each output is individually configurable, supporting current loops or bipolar voltage signals. Measurement resolution is 610.352 nA on the current range and 305.176 µV on the voltage range, with a 50 ms sampling duration. The module is powered internally from the backplane (24 V DC -15...20 %), drawing 2 mA at 5 V DC, and dissipates 1.21 W. Local signaling includes three LEDs: green for power, red for power fault, and two yellow for output status.
Comparison: TM5SAO2H vs. TM5SAO4H
The TM5SAO4H is a 4-channel variant sharing the same 12.5 mm × 75 mm × 99 mm mechanical footprint, making the TM5SAO2H a mechanical drop-in replacement when channel count is the only difference. Key functional differences: the TM5SAO4H offers a faster sampling duration of 50 µs (vs. 50 ms on the TM5SAO2H) and better non-linearity of <0.005 %FS (vs. <0.007 %FS). The TM5SAO2H has a slightly lower power dissipation (1.21 W vs. 1.51 W). For a BOM needing exactly two outputs and moderate speed, the TM5SAO2H is the correct choice. If future expansion to four outputs or faster loop updates is expected, the TM5SAO4H avoids a later swap.
Integration Notes
Mounts on a DIN rail within the Modicon TM5 backplane. Pollution degree 2, IP20. Operating ambient 0...55 °C horizontal, up to 60 °C with derating, 0...50 °C vertical. Shock 15 gn for 11 ms; vibration 1 gn (8.4...150 Hz) on rail, 3.5 mm (5...8.4 Hz). Use shielded cable for analog signals to maintain accuracy. Isolation between channels and bus is 500 Vrms AC. The module carries CE marking and complies with UL 508, CSA C22.2 No 142 and 213, and IEC 61131-2. Temperature coefficient is 0.015 %FS/°C for both current and voltage outputs.
