The VW3A3E307S371 is a Profibus DP V1 communication card for Altivar variable-speed drives, letting the drive talk to a Profibus master over a standard 9-way female SUB-D connector. It carries two LEDs — one for data exchange (DX) and one for status (ST) — plus a graphic display terminal that shows the control word received, I/O data, and reference received, so a commissioning engineer can confirm the bus link without a handheld tool.
Bus speed and addressing
The card auto-negotiates or is set to one of eight baud rates: 9.6, 19.2, 93.75, 187.5, 500 kbps, 1.5, 3, 6, or 12 Mbps, covering the full Profibus DP speed range from legacy 96 kbps lines up to the 12 Mbps backbone. Station addressing spans 1 through 126, set via the drive's parameter menu or hardware DIP switches on the card itself.
Communication profiles supported
It supports the CiA 402 drive profile and the I/O profile, with PPO types 3, 4, 5, and 8 — so it handles both cyclic process data and acyclic parameter access common in Altivar installations. Communication monitoring can be inhibited, which is useful during commissioning when the master is not yet sending cyclic telegrams.
