The VW3A4409 is an EMC radio interference input filter from the Schneider Electric Altivar range, designed for three-phase supply lines. It suppresses conducted emissions from the drive back onto the mains, keeping the installation within EN 133200 limits. The filter accepts dual voltage ranges — 380...500 V and 200...240 V — so it covers both 400 V and 208/240 V grids without a separate variant.
Maximum earth leakage current is 14 mA at both 400 V 50 Hz and 230 V 50 Hz — that is the current that flows to ground through the filter's Y-capacitors. For a standard industrial panel with a 30 mA RCD, this leaves headroom; for medical or sensitive-earth installations, check the residual current device coordination. The filter carries IP20 on the body and IP41 on the upper part, meaning it is protected against solid objects over 12 mm (fingers) and against dripping water from above — suitable for a clean, dry enclosure, not for washdown areas. A drive cabinet at 2000 m loses 10 % of the filter's current capacity — factor that into the BOM if the installation is at elevation.
Mechanical and environmental notes
Electrical connection uses a terminal accepting up to 25 mm² / AWG 2 wire — sized for the input feed of a moderate-power drive. Tightening torque is 4 N.m. The filter withstands 15 gn shock for 11 ms (EN/IEC 60068-2-27) and vibration of 1 gn at 13-150 Hz with 1.5 mm peak-to-peak at 3-13 Hz (IEC 60068-2-6). Tolerance on the filter's parameters is 10 %.
