EMC input filter for high-current Altivar drives
It sits between the line supply and the drive's input rectifier, attenuating conducted emissions to meet EN 133200 limits. At 1456 A, this filter is sized for the largest Altivar drives — think multi-motor lines or a single high-power motor in the 500+ kW class on 400 VAC. The 380 W thermal loss figure means the enclosure needs ventilation; at this power level, forced air or a dedicated filtered cabinet is the norm, not a panel with passive convection.
The 200 mA maximum earth leakage current at 400 V 50 Hz is a key figure for residual-current device (RCD) coordination; a standard 300 mA RCD may nuisance-trip, so plan for a time-delay or selective type, or a dedicated RCD bypass per the drive's installation manual. The IP00 base rating means the filter has no enclosure — it mounts inside a cabinet. With the VW3A9601 or VW3A9602 kit it reaches IP30, which is finger-safe but still not washdown-rated.
Electrical connection is via M12 x 2 bars — these are threaded busbars, not terminals, so the installer needs ring lugs or busbar adapters, not ferrules. The filter tolerates 15 gn shock for 11 ms (EN/IEC 60068-2-27) and vibration at 1 gn from 13 to 150 Hz, with a 1.5 mm peak-to-peak displacement at lower frequencies. Operating temperature range is -25 to 45 °C; above 1000 m altitude, derate current by 1 % per 100 m. Relative humidity up to 93 % non-condensing (IEC 68-2-3). These environmental specs match the drive's own ratings, so the filter can share the same cabinet zone without a thermal separation barrier.
