DC choke for drive harmonic mitigation
The Schneider VW3A4509 is a DC choke rated 36 A with 0.7 mH inductance, designed to reduce current harmonics on the DC bus of a variable speed drive. It handles 1.65 x nominal current for 60 seconds, giving it short-term overload headroom for motor acceleration or load transients. Thermal losses run 30.5 W at rated load — enough heat that panel ventilation or spacing from other heat-sensitive components matters in a sealed enclosure. Operating temperature range is -10 to 50 °C without derating; above 50 °C up to 60 °C, derate current 2.2 % per °C. At altitude above 1000 m up to 3000 m, derate 1 % per 100 m.
Integration and connections
Three-phase input, 50/60 Hz. Power and earth terminals accept up to 10 mm² (AWG 6) — enough for the 36 A rating with standard copper. Tightening torque for both power and earth circuits is 1.2 to 1.4 N·m. Dimensions: 120 mm deep, 96 mm wide, 134 mm high. Fits a standard DIN-rail footprint; verify clearances for the 30.5 W thermal dissipation in your panel layout. Maximum voltage drop at rated load is 6 % — a factor to check against the drive DC bus voltage margin, especially on weak mains or long cable runs.
