What it does and where it lands
The VW3A46108 is a passive filter from Schneider's Altivar family, sized for a 30 kW / 40 hp drive on a 400 V three-phase network. It knocks down current harmonics to meet IEC 61000-3-12 and G5/4 — the kind of compliance you need to avoid a nuisance trip from the utility or a failed site EMC audit. Rated 58 A input / 60 A output, it handles 1.5× nominal for 60 seconds — enough to ride through a motor start without saturating. Efficiency sits at 98 %, so you're not dumping 352 W of heat into the cabinet for nothing. That 352 W is real — plan the ventilation or derate the ambient.
Harmonic performance by drive family
THDI varies by drive generation. On the ATV61W and ATV71W it runs 16 %; on the ATV630, ATV650, ATV930, and ATV950 it drops to 10 %. Same filter, different drive — the difference is the drive's own input rectifier design. Cos phi tracks load: unity at full load (0.99 at 100 %), 0.85 at 75 %, and 1.0 at 150 % of line current — the filter's reactive compensation holds steady across the operating band.
IP20 as standard; IP55 if you enclosure-mount it. That means a clean, dry cabinet unless you're sealing the enclosure face — don't put this in a washdown zone without the IP55 cover. Operating ambient 5…45 °C with no derating; above that, derate 3 % per °C up to 60 °C. Altitude derating starts above 1000 m: 5 % per additional 1000 m. Terminals accept 2.5…25 mm² on the power side; the control/aux terminals take 2.5 mm². Vibration rated to 0.7 gn up to 150 Hz — fine for floor-mounted cabinets, marginal on a machine arm.
Schneider lists the VW3A46108 as active — no end-of-life notice on file. It's a mature product, so the design is stable, but keep an eye on PCNs if you're freezing a BOM for a multi-year run.
