The VW3A46117 is a Schneider Altivar passive filter built to knock down current harmonics on big variable-speed drives — specifically the ATV61 and ATV71 series in the 355 kW to 560 kW / 800 hp range. It's a 3-phase, 400 V (+/- 10%), 50 Hz line reactor that pulls THDI down to 10% on those drive ratings, which keeps you inside the IEC 61000-3-4 and G5/4 harmonic limits without an active front end. Rated 325 A on the input side and 338 A on the output, it can handle 1.5 times nominal current for 60 seconds — enough headroom for the inrush and transient loads a 355 kW drive throws at the line. Efficiency runs at 98%, so you're only dumping 952 W of heat into the enclosure; that's real for panel cooling budgets.
You need two of these filters per drive for the 355 kW ATV61H, ATV71H, ATV61Q, and ATV71Q; three per drive for the 560 kW / 800 hp versions. That's a lot of copper and steel in the cabinet — each unit measures up at the 338 A terminal class, so plan gland-plate space for 25 to 300 mm² cable on the X1-1 through X2-3 terminals, plus the 2.5 mm² control wiring on the A/B terminals. IP20 as a standalone unit, IP55 when enclosure-mounted — meaning it's fine inside a ventilated panel but not for direct washdown exposure. Operating temperature range is 5 to 45 °C without derating; above that, derate 3% per °C up to 60 °C. Mounting altitude above 1000 m costs you another 5% derating per 1000 m. Both matter if this filter lands in a hot mezzanine or a high-altitude plant. Power factor correction is built in: cos phi hits 0.99 at full load, 0.85 at 75% load, and unity (1.0) at 150% of line current. That's the filter doing its job — flattening the reactive draw across the operating range.
Designed to IEC 61000-3-4, IEC 61000-3-2, IEC 61000-3-12, IEC 61000-2-2, and IEC 61000-2-4, plus the UK G5/4 engineering recommendation. Vibration resistance per IEC 60068-2-6: 2 mm peak-to-peak at 5–13.2 Hz, 0.7 gn at 13.2–150 Hz. Insulation class F, storage from -25 to 55 °C in original packaging, transport up to 65 °C.
