What this filter does on the line side
The VW3A46119 is a passive harmonic filter sized for Altivar ATV61, ATV71, ATV630, and ATV930 drives running 250 kW/400 hp to 500 kW/700 hp frames. It knocks total harmonic current distortion (THDI) down to 10 % across that range, which keeps the installation inside IEC 61000-3-4 and IEC 61000-3-12 limits — no active front end needed, no extra cabinet space for a multi-pulse transformer. Rated 450 A output at 400 V +/- 10 %, 50 Hz. One filter per drive covers the 250 kW/400 hp frames; the 500 kW/700 hp frames need two in parallel. That per-drive quantity is baked into the BOM — don't order singles for the big frames and expect one to carry the load.
What the ratings mean in the panel
Thermal losses run 1542 W at full load — that's real heat to sink. Mounting inside an IP20 enclosure means the panel needs forced ventilation or enough cubic volume to keep ambient under 45 °C without derating. Above 45 °C and up to 60 °C, derate current 3 % per °C; if you're pushing 450 A continuous in a hot room, the filter will throttle before the drive does. Efficiency sits at 98 %, so only 2 % of the throughput turns into heat — good for a passive device. Power factor correction is built in: cos phi hits 0.99 at full load, 0.85 at 75 % load, and unity (1) at 150 % line current for the 60-second overload window. Class F insulation (155 °C) on the windings gives thermal headroom for the overload transient. The 1.5 x nominal current rating for 60 seconds is the same overload profile most Altivar drives carry — it matches, not fights.
Terminals on the line side accept 2.5 mm² for the control wiring (A, B terminal); the power terminals X1-1 through X2-3 take 25 to 300 mm² — that's cable up to about 600 MCM for the 450 A path. Vibration resistance per IEC 60068-2-6: 2 mm peak-to-peak at 5-13.2 Hz, 0.7 gn at 13.2-150 Hz. Bolted to a backplate or enclosure floor, not free-hanging. IP20 as shipped; IP55 if mounted inside an enclosure with the right gasketing. Operating humidity 5...85 % without condensation.
