What this filter does on the line side
The VW3A46120 is a three-phase passive filter that sits between the mains and the drive input, sized for 6 A input / 6.2 A output at 400 V +/- 10 % and 50 Hz +/- 2 %. Its job is to knock down current harmonics before they hit the supply transformer — the THDI lands at 10 % for the ATV61H/71H/71P/71W series and drops to 5 % for the ATV61W, ATV630, ATV650, ATV930, and ATV950 families across the 0.75 kW to 3 kW motor range. That 5 % figure on the newer drive lines means it meets IEC 61000-3-4 and IEC 61000-3-12 without additional line reactors in most installations.
Efficiency and thermal budget
Runs at 98 % efficiency with 88 W thermal losses at full load — that heat has to go somewhere inside the enclosure. The filter carries a Class F insulation rating, so it handles the temperature rise, but the panel builder needs to account for that 88 W in the overall ventilation calc. Mount it with clearance around the vent slots; the IP20 body is fine inside a cabinet, and the IP55 rating applies only when enclosure-mounted with the gland plate sealed.
Drive compatibility — one filter per drive
This is a one-filter-per-drive part, not a shared bus filter. It pairs with Altivar ATV61H, ATV61W, ATV71H, ATV71P, ATV71W, ATV630, ATV650, ATV930, and ATV950 drives rated 0.75 kW through 3 kW. The wiring is straightforward: three-phase in on terminals X1-1 through X1-3 (accepts 0.5 to 10 mm²), three-phase out on X2-1 through X2-3, plus A and B terminals for the 2.5 mm² control connection. No separate control power needed — it's a passive device.
That means it's still the recommended harmonic mitigation option for the Altivar drives it covers, not a legacy part being phased out.
