The Schneider Electric VW3A46123 is a passive filter designed to reduce current harmonics on the input side of variable-speed drives. It sits between the line supply and the drive, rated for 22 A input and 23 A output at 400 V +/- 10 %, 50 Hz +/- 2 %. The filter is a three-phase device, sized for 11 kW / 15 hp motors across the ATV61, ATV71, ATV630, ATV650, ATV930, and ATV950 drive families. Its job is to bring the current total harmonic distortion (THDI) down to 5 % for ATV61W, ATV630, ATV650, ATV930, and ATV950 drives, and to 10 % for ATV61H, ATV71H, ATV71P, and ATV71W drives — all at the 11 kW / 15 hp motor rating. That means it keeps the line-side harmonics below the limits set by IEC 61000-3-4 and IEC 61000-3-12, which is what the utility and site EMC plan care about.
At 98 % efficiency, the filter wastes only 258 W as heat at full rated load. That thermal loss figure matters for enclosure sizing — if the panel is sealed or tight on ventilation, that 258 W has to be managed. The filter is rated Class F insulation, so it handles the internal temperature rise without derating up to 45 °C ambient; above that, derate 3 % per °C up to 60 °C. The power factor (cos φ) varies with load: 0.99 at 100 % line current, 0.85 at 75 %, and 1.0 at 150 % (the overload point). That 1.5 x nominal current for 60 s is the short-duration overload capability — useful for motor starting or momentary load spikes, but not continuous. Mounting is straightforward: IP20 for general cabinet installation, IP55 if mounted inside an enclosure. Terminals accept 0.5 to 10 mm² on the main power connections and 2.5 mm² on the control/auxiliary terminals. One filter per drive — no sharing across multiple drives.
