The VW3A46148 is a Schneider Electric passive filter from the Altivar accessory family, designed to reduce current harmonics on three-phase 480 V, 60 Hz variable-speed drives. It is rated 73 A input / 76 A output and delivers 98 % efficiency with 374 W thermal losses. The filter is matched one-per-drive to Altivar ATV61W, ATV61H, ATV71H, ATV71W, ATV650, ATV630, ATV950, and ATV930 units at 45 kW / 60 hp.
Schneider lists the VW3A46148 as obsolete.
The 73 A input / 76 A output rating sets the maximum continuous current the filter can carry without exceeding its thermal design — match it to the drive's line-side current draw, not the motor full-load amps. THDI performance varies by drive model: 10 % on ATV61W, ATV650, ATV630, ATV950, and ATV930 at 45 kW, and 16 % on ATV61H, ATV71H, and ATV71W at the same power level. That means on an ATV61W installation the filter knocks line harmonics down to 10 % of fundamental; on an ATV71H the same filter yields 16 %. The cos phi curve (0.85 at 75 % current, 0.99 at 100 %, unity at 150 %) reflects the filter's reactive compensation profile — at full load the power factor correction is near unity, which keeps the line-side PF penalty low.
Deployment and integration
The filter is a passive, line-side device — mount it between the mains supply and the drive input. It carries IP20 as standard, with IP55 available when mounted inside an enclosure. Operating ambient range is 5 to 45 °C without derating; above 45 °C up to 60 °C, derate current by 3 % per °C. Above 1000 m altitude, derate 5 % per additional 1000 m. Electrical connections use A/B terminals up to 2.5 mm² and X1-1 through X2-3 terminals up to 50 mm². Vibration resistance per IEC 60068-2-6: 2 mm peak-to-peak at 5–13.2 Hz, 0.7 gn at 13.2–150 Hz.
The filter complies with IEC 61000-3-2, IEC 61000-3-12, IEC 61000-2-2, IEC 61000-3-4, and IEC 61000-2-4, plus G5/4 engineering recommendation. Insulation is Class F. Storage temperature in original packaging is –25 to 55 °C; transport range extends to 65 °C. Relative humidity 5–85 % without condensation.
