The VW3A46171 is a passive harmonic filter from Schneider Electric's Altivar accessory range, designed to reduce current harmonics on the line side of variable-speed drives. It is rated for a continuous input current of 183 A and output current of 190 A, at a supply voltage of 480 V +/- 10 %, 60 Hz. Its primary job is to bring the total harmonic current distortion (THDI) down to 5 % when paired with an Altivar drive rated 110 kW / 150 hp — that includes the ATV61H, ATV71H, ATV61Q, ATV71Q, ATV630, and ATV930 families. The 480 V +/- 10 % supply voltage matches North American 480 VAC three-phase panels; the 60 Hz line frequency is fixed, not 50/60 Hz auto-switching. Thermal losses run 1080 W, so panel ventilation or enclosure derating matters — the filter itself is IP20, but when mounted in an enclosure it can achieve IP55. Ambient operating range is 5...45 °C without derating; above that, derate 3 % per °C up to 60 °C. Power factor correction is not the goal here — cos phi varies with load (1 at 150 % line current, 0.99 at 100 %, 0.85 at 75 %). The filter's efficiency is 98 %, meaning about 2 % of throughput is lost as heat.
This is a line-side passive filter, installed between the mains supply and the drive input. Wiring terminals on the A/B block accept up to 90 mm² cable; the control terminals (X1-1...X2-3) take 2.5 mm². One filter per drive, and the drive family list covers the ATV630 and ATV930 wall-mount variants at 110 kW.
